On 27th May 2025, the government, led by Sir Kier Starmer announced a major reform of the UK apprenticeship system, marking a significant investment in the country’s future workforce.
The changes include a record-breaking £3 Billion apprenticeship budget, aimed at creating new pathways for young people to gain practical training and develop the skills needed for long-term successful careers.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson stated:
“A skilled workforce is key to steering the economy forward, and today we’re backing the next generation by giving young people more opportunities.”
The reform sees funding redirected from Level 7 apprenticeships while increasing the immigration skills charge, further reinforcing a commitment to developing homegrown talent. It’s a clear move to tackle the ongoing skills shortages across multiple sectors by placing greater emphasis on empowering British youth to enter the workforce.
